Treatments for Skin Irritations On Your Face

Anyone who had to face an irritation on face knows how embarrassing that can be. Just imagine, you are dressed to kill for that special person you want to impress, and suddenly, you have this urgent need to scratch your nose or cheeks! You cannot always excuse yourself to go the restrooms to fix yourself; neither can you wash your face to ease the irritation.

This itching can soon become painful as well. Now there are some irritations that may not be so prominent than others, but still cause problems later on. The best way to deal with these skin irritations is to solve the problems that cause these irritations in the first place. Most often, when the underlying causes are gone, so will be the itchiness and pain. Some causes that give rise to skin irritations include severe dry skin, sunburn, rosacea and razor burn.

Phototherapy

As for the treatments for these irritations, one of them is phototherapy. This is a type of treatment that is best when the irritation on facial skin is caused by psoriasis. Both irritation and itching will be reduced by phototherapy. In this treatment, UVB rays are used for penetrating into the skin and exposing the irritated facial skin to the rays. A set period of time should be given for this treatment and slowly the facial skin cells showing irritation stops growing. This therapy has to be done by a doctor.

Antihistamines

If you have hives or any other kind of allergic reactions, then to treat your facial skin irritations you have to have oral antihistamines. They have to be swallowed through mouth and provide moderate results. Such antihistamines are easily available over-the-counter but do follow the instructions for use written on the box. If you are not very sure about using over-the-counter drugs, then you can visit your physician and ask him/her to prescribe you a good antihistamine. Remember to follow the dosage instructions and information regarding use that will be given by your doctor.

Moisturizing Cream

A soothing moisturize can help you with skin irritations. As to your need, apply once or twice every day. But be sure to select a moisturizing cream that is not highly fragranced. That is because such fragrant moisturizing lotion or cream will irritate your skin all the more. Go for lotions or creams that have for ingredients camphor, calamine or sweet-almond oil. As for base, the moisturizing cream/lotion should have water or oil.

Anti-itch Cream

The last but not the least remedy for any kind of skin irritation is a good anti-itch cream. It will relieve the discomfort and itch of your irritated and inflamed skin. Go for those cream that have 1% hydrocortisone in them. Use such a hydrocortisone cream on your face once to thrice a day. Such creams will not only stop the itch but also heal your skin of the problem that caused the itch. If you had redness, the cream will also help you to get rid of it too.
