On February 9th, 34-year-old Oscar R. Albarracin of New York was driving a tractor-trailer rig in Fairfax, Virginia when he lost control of the vehicle causing his load to shift, which resulted in the rig overturning and losing a portion of the load as it scattered all over the highway.
The accident resulted in the right exit ramp from I-495 to I-66 West as well as all lanes of westbound I-66 being shut down for most of the morning, including rush hour as people were making their way to work. Albarracin had a passenger in the truck at the time; the passenger sustained no injuries, and Albarracin was check out at Fairfax Hospital where it was determined he had only minor injuries.
Fairfax police stated that speed was a factor in the crash.
