Breast cancer increasing incidence among the under 40

Bad news regarding the incidence of breast cancer in Italy: not only are witnessing a trend of significant growth, but above that goes to interest, on average, younger and younger women. Fortunately, the chances of survival are greatly increased in recent years, mainly thanks to the timeliness of diagnosis and treatment more targeted and effective. But let's look at facts and statistics, which in their aridity, nevertheless provide a basis for deciding on certified courses of action for the future.

Over the last decade the incidence of disease increased by 25% and is the leading cause of death among women in the age group between 35 and 40 years, with a particular risk just for the under 40. Specifically, of 40 thousand women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, 30.4% are under 44 years of age and 35.7 ranging from 44 to 65 years.

Again: on average two out of ten women in the course of their lives, develop breast cancer (especially breast cancer), also a cancer diagnosed within three to 65 years is just breast cancer. Of course, the chances of surviving this dreadful disease, the most common cancer among women, decreased with the decline of age.

A woman with less than 40 years has a chance of not surviving cancer 52%, mainly because the cancers that affect child-bearing age are more aggressive than those arising in older patients. However, significant that even after 70 years, again, particularly insidious cancer, but, as we know, the progression of the disease is also directly proportional to the youth organization.

Today is International Women's Day and it seems the right time to speak of these things that are not as nice dinner and party in disco, but which are part of our being a woman that disease we are talking about too little.

All figures and percentages relating to the spread of breast cancer in the Italian territory are contained in a report that is being presented to the press by the Healthcare Commission of the Senate, on the occasion of International Women's Day. On the day we celebrate, then, the best thing we can do is remind ourselves that the prevention and an annual check up can save lives.
