The Common Side Effects of The Master Cleanse Diet

Losing weight is a struggle for many people. Some are constantly searching for the diet that will help them shed pounds. They may even spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on diets. The search continues until they find a method that helps them get healthy. One diet that an increasing amount of people are trying is the master cleanse diet, and some have had a great deal of success with it. What may not be known is the side effects that can come with it.

In 1941, Stanley Burroughs created the master cleanse diet, which is also referred to as the Lemon Cleanse and The Maple Syrup Diet. A detox diet, the master cleanse is designed to remove all the toxins that have been building as a result of environmental exposure and consuming certain foods. Some believe that ulcers, diseases, and some disorders can be healed from this diet.

Following the master cleanse involves only consuming drinks that are made from fruits and vegetables, which means no tea, soda, or any other drink. For a minimum of ten days, no solid foods can be eaten. Some people will extend the diet for 30 days, or in extreme cases 90 days because they believe than 10 days is not enough to get the results they want.

However, the master cleanse diet is not supposed to be done for longer than 10 days, as it's not technically a weight loss diet. The result of doing it for 30 days or longer can bring about some side effects. This diet is only designed to remove toxins from the body that have come from fertilizers, pesticides, prescription drugs, foods, and so on.

Some of the side effects of using this diet for extended periods of time include joint pain and severe stomach cramps. Other side effects include headaches, more trips to the bathroom, and vomiting. Also, users report that they do lose a lot of weight as a result of the diet, almost all of it returns once they begin eating solids again. When you starve, the body's metabolism is slower and so once you eat foods again, the calories aren't burned as fast. Other side effects include heavy sinus draining, sweating, excessive ear wax, white coating on your tongue, and fatigue.

These are just a few of the common side effects of the master cleanse diet, but other complications can occur as well.
