Wedding invitations have been sent to royal families across Europe for the upcoming British Royal wedding.

According to the Press Association, electronic wedding invites from Prince William and Kate Middleton have been posted to the email inboxes of many foreign heads of state and royals. Crown princes and other world leaders have also been invited to the wedding, due to take place on 29 April this year.

Although a list of the names of all those who have received the electronic wedding invites has not been revealed, a spokesperson for one royal couple said they had received a wedding invitation from the Queen.

The emails are reported to have been sent to avoid diary clashes with other events. In a statement written on behalf of the Crown Prince of the former Yugoslavia, Alexander Karadjordjevic and his wife Crown Princess Katherine, the couple expressed their joy on hearing the news of the upcoming wedding.

It states: "Their Royal Highnesses are delighted to attend the marriage and are very happy for the young couple."

Other royal families are expected to attend the wedding, which will be held in Westminster Abbey. Among those due to attend are members of the Romanian royal family, led by the former King Michael and former head of the Greek Monarch, King Constantine.

Prince William and Kate Middleton met while they were both attending St Andrew's University. After meeting through friends, the pair became very close with Prince William even attending a fashion show in which Kate was modelling.

The future heir to the throne proposed in October last year while they were on holiday in Kenya. To mark the special occasion and significance of the day, the 29th April will now be marked as an extra bank holiday for millions of workers across the United Kingdom.
