The Wonderful Job of Parenting

Parenting involves the support and promotion of the various development aspects of a child starting from infancy until adulthood, which include physical, social, emotional and intellectual developments. The process does not refer to the biological relationship of the parents to the child but rather on the activity of raising young children. In human society though, it is usually the biological parents who take on the task with the society and the state taking on a surrogate role. Thus, abandoned and orphaned children can be raised by relatives, orphanages and foster parent organizations.

Goals of Parents

The goal of parents is to provide for the physical needs of the children and protect them from anything that can be harmful to them. It is their obligation to impart to them values and skills that will prove valuable to the young children when they reach adulthood.

Parenting is one of the most satisfying experiences that anybody can have. There seems to be a natural instinct that guides all parents but you can become better with pieces of advice that will help you through the growing up years as well as the teenage development of your children. However, the most important thing you can do for your kids is to give them a sense that they are loved. Even a gentle encouragement, a subtle appreciation or a little cuddle can do a lot to boost the sense of security and confidence of the children. Unfortunately, the kind of acceptance that children need is often given by their peers not their parents.

Raising good children include providing order for them. Set boundaries early like curfews so that they will learn about their limitations at an early age. Being an authority to the kids will actually give them the feeling that they are loved by their parents. Although it is common for children to rebel at restrictions, deep inside they enjoy the concerns that are being shown to them. An authority figure is also necessary in dealing with fighting siblings, which is actually a common situation that parents have to deal with everyday.

Parenting also requires you to instill the sense of responsibility in your kids. Give them house chores or jobs that they can do and reward them with some form of privilege such as extra playing time or money. Conversely, you should also give them punishments for not doing a good job. No matter how young your children are, they will learn the concept. As they grow older, they will be ready for more responsibilities.
