Many people don't pay any special attention to the proper storage of pharmaceutical bottles. There is a special concern when those people have small children. Another mechanism for child resistant bottles was based on the two arrows system. The idea behind this mechanism is pretty simple. There are to arrows on the bottle. One arrow is on the lid and the other is on the bottle itself. You can open the child resistant bottle only if the arrows are exactly one beneath the other. This mechanism is more complex for the children and protects them with greater success. The problem is that the mechanism is more complex for the adults as well. People tend not to read the instructions and struggle to open the bottle. Another disadvantage is that those arrows don't shine in the dark, so they cannot be seen at night or in dark areas. Pharmaceutical companies compete with each other, to manufacture a reliable child resistant bottle, however they should not ignore the fact the adults, especially older adults need to be able to open the bottle as well.
There are other mechanisms a plastic bottle manufacturer could use for child resistant bottles, and there are also a few new ideas waiting to be tested and approved.
As we have seen, there are many different mechanisms for child resistant bottles used today. Each of them deals with a compromise between the safety rank and the mechanism simplicity to adults. It's recommended to buy child resistant bottles to reduce the chance of children getting access to medicine, but keep in mind that you should still keep your medication away, in a locked cabinet, child resistant bottles are not an alternative to the safe storage of medication.
