This is yet another good portrayal by Mark Ruffalo of his character. The movie is directed by the Armenian-American Academy Award winner director, Steven Zaillian, who previously did movies such as Awakenings, Schindler's List, Mission: Impossible, Hannibal, and Gangs of New York, just to name a few. It was also produced by him along with Ken Lemberger, Mike Madavoy, and Arnold Messer as well as written by him with an adaptation of the 1946 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren.
The movie has a big star cast including Sean Penn, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, and also has Anthony Hopkins, Jackie Earle Haley and James Gandolfini. The movie was distributed by Columbia Pictures and was released on September 22, 2006 in the United States. It had a budget of $55 million and earned $9,450,897 in gross revenue. It has 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 153 reviews and 6 star rating on IMDb.
The film is a great political thriller and one that is much needed in this time in the American politics to highlight its faults and shortcomings. The film has been well acted by all the cast members. Their acting abilities keep the audiences at the edge of their seats as to what will happen in the story. Brilliant performances matched with excellent movie making have made this film into a classic of audience choice. Even though the movie did not receive much praise or recognition, never the less, it does not fall short of expectations in any way. It is one movie that a person can have in his or her collection for the mere reason for the great performances given by its cast members. Some say that it just a remake of the movie that has been previously made based on the same novel, but the director has done a brilliant job in narrating this story in his own unique way, but yet still remaining truthful to the original work in the novel. Sean Penn does a great job with the role he has been assigned with Jude Law showing equal competence with his brilliant performance. Go see this movie and you will not regret spending your time on it.
