Display and Camouflage - Most common in Animals, Man and in Corporate

The trait of display and camouflage are deeply coded in the genes of all life forms. The interesting aspect of the behaviour is that the psychological/biological need is what drives all the life forms to exhibit the above traits. The psychological and biological need can be real or may be synthesized or created.

The purpose and relevance of display and camouflage in life of fauna and flora, in humans and in the corporate world is discussed in the article.

In the case of fauna, whenever the above behaviour exists, the most known purpose is being selection of the potential mate. The behaviour exhibited by different males give a chance to the female to select the best to ensure the best future generation. Many male birds display their beauty and colour to attract the attention of the female. Display of aggression by male animals during rut season has a definite purpose of sexual acceptance by the female animals.

In the case of plants too, diversely coloured flowers attract insects and birds to do the job of transferring pollens from male flowers to female flowers. This is all about the very purpose of display behaviour in fauna and flora in brief. Display trait is a compelling biological need in fauna and flora formed in the course of evolution.

Let us see how display behaviour exists in human life and what could be the purpose of such behaviour. Display behaviour does not have any biological purpose in human life however, humans exhibit display behaviour more than any life forms. The genesis of display behaviour in man is due to his/her psychological need. Men are crazy for various cosmetic products. They love to use them with a hope that the cosmetic products will help them to display their beauty. The urge is also that cosmetics make them beautiful. Presenting themselves decently/elegantly has to be differentiated from presenting beautifully. Presenting beautifully has an inner need that is acceptance. Although the display trait for the purpose of sexual acceptance has lost its biological significance in man, but still may be existing at the psychological level.

Display behaviour at the corporate world is very interesting. Most corporate creates and talk about systems and process they follow, huge investments incurred on advertisements, release of news letter to highlight even the trivial events etc. Business need is very definite and dominant in corporate world that necessitate the display behaviour.

Biological need, no need and business need is what the display trait is all about in animal life, human life and in corporate.

The next aspect is about camouflage. Camouflage is yet another important trait seen in animal kingdom. The very purpose of camouflage is defense or protection from the predator. Changing body colour in chameleon, show of frilled lizard, arch back in cats are some of the finest examples of camouflage seen in animal world. Once again, the biological need is what compelling for this behaviour in animals.

In human life, camouflage is almost the way of life. The real meaning, essence and purpose of camouflage can bee seen only in humans. False pretension in communication, in showing up to others, in his very expression of concern for othersin every actions of man, camouflage can be seen as a very dominant component.

In the case of corporate world, HR departments seriously engage in camouflaging. Giving presentations to the world as the best HR based organization, best HR policies and practices etc. Besides HR, others functions do try to show up what they have achieved and what it mean to the organization just to avoid threat to their job. Yes, the fear or a sense of insecurity is the cause for camouflage in corporate world.
