subject: Women And Problems With Their Fallopian Tubes [print this page] The fallopian tubes are two tubes that lead from the ovaries into the uterus. The fallopian tubes are very vital organs in the womens reproductive system. This is because the egg passes through the fallopian tube into the uterus to unite with the sperm from the male. As such, the status of the fallopian tubes is very vital in determining whether a woman will be capable of becoming pregnant or not. However, there are certain instances when a woman may have some problems with her fallopian tubes that affect her ability to reproduce. Such conditions can place a huge barrier on a womans ability to conceive.
Common Problems of the Fallopian Tubes
The following are the common problems of the fallopian tubes:
1)Blocked Fallopian Tubes. This happens when there is blockage in the tubes that prevent the passage of the egg to the uterus. The blockage may be due to an infection, due to inflammation, due to adhesions in the fallopian tubes, or due to scars on the tissue of the fallopian tubes. This is one of the common problems that women may have with their fallopian tubes. This condition not only prevents a woman from conceiving but also poses the risk of ectopic pregnancy, a condition where the pregnancy develops in the fallopian tube because the fertilized egg could not get out into the uterus. This is a risky type of pregnancy, and in some cases, pregnancy is terminated to avoid greater danger to the woman.
2)Infections. Another cause of problems to the fallopian tubes arises from infections in the vagina that travels upward to infect her fallopian tubes. Such a condition can lead to scarring of tissues in the fallopian tubes. Such infections are usually caused by sexually transmitted diseases like Gonorrhea and Chlamydia.
3)Endometriosis. Another problem of the fallopian tubes is due to endometriosis. This is a condition where the tissue of the uterus grows into other parts of the pelvic cavity including the fallopian tubes. As a result, there is blockage on the fallopian tubes, thus preventing conception.
4)Tubal ligation is also another condition that prevents a woman from conceiving. However, unlike the previously mentioned methods, tubal ligation is not a diseases or a disorder. In tubal ligation, the fallopian tubes are tied in a surgical procedure. It is commonly done by a woman to intentionally prevent conception. As such, tubal ligation is most commonly availed to women who do not want to conceive anymore, being a highly effective method in preventing pregnancy. However, if a woman wishes to give birth again later, tubal ligation can be difficult to reverse.
When a woman experiences any of the abovementioned problems in the fallopian tubes, it is always recommended that she consult with a doctor immediately. This is not only to provide treatment but also to avoid the condition from becoming worse, especially when there is risk of greater infection when the condition is ignored.
