Sports Coach Insurance Will Cover a Myriad of Misadventures

Being a sports coach can be very rewarding - but it can also be very costly in a financial sense if an unforeseen event leads to an insurance claim.

Many local teams benefit from funding through sponsorship by a business run by a parent or relative of one of the team members. But these are the lucky ones, and often the coach or manager is landed with a long list of out-of-pocket expenses which help keep the team running on a week-to-week basis.

Sports coaching is great fun and can also look great on a person's CV but it is important to be aware of the downsides of coaching.

Anyone looking to get involved in helping train and run a sports team needs to consider the issue of insurance and how much protection they will need. A coach must have some form of personal indemnity cover because there is a risk of having claims made against you for any injuries obtained by players.

Even if the coach is not responsible for the accidents, it may be they are found against when someone makes a complaint for loss of earnings or for costs to repair an injury or replace damaged equipment, and this is something that a coach must consider. Not everyone has sufficient funds to cover this sort of claim if it goes against them, so having an insurance policy in place is the best way to ensure a complaint does not have dire financial consequences.

Of course, every coach will hope that they never need to call on their indemnity cover, but like all insurance policies, it can be better to have it in place and not use than to not have one and then find yourself facing a claim from a third party. Such cover is also useful for the whole team, in offering the prospect of recompense or replacement should anything happen to their kit or sports equipment.

Sports authorities often look dimly on sports teams which are unable to fulfil any of their fixtures, so the consequences of losing kit and having to wait for it to be replaced could be far greater than the mere cost of its replacement. The same can be said for training equipment or perhaps even the team bus or van in which players are driven around. If any of these were unable to be used, the team would suffer. Apart from being unable to play, they could suffer a serious loss of goodwill. After all, it is rather unsporting to not be able to play a scheduled game.
