Heart Themed Wedding Favors You Can Make

Whether your wedding theme is based on hearts or you have used them as a detail for a wider theme, creating heart themed wedding favors for your guests is a great way of injecting a little extra romance into your day.

Hearts are of course a popular symbol (or should that be shape?) when it comes to weddings and favors stores are full of little heart shaped objects ranging from candles to bottle openers. But one of the best ways of giving wedding favors that go on to become true keepsakes is to make them yourself.

Even if you are not particularly creative, making your own wedding favors can be fun and you never know, could even unleash the hidden craft queen in you! Here are just a few ideas for making your own heart shaped favors to give to your guests.

Use large heart shaped wooden blanks to create pretty hanging decorations which can be used around the home. Drill a hole at the top so you can thread through some ribbon or string and then paint them in colors to coordinate with your wedding color scheme. You can also add your names and wedding date and/or your guest's names to double them up as place cards.

Look for papier mache hearts which also can be hung up as decorations. These, like the wooden versions, are very versatile and can be painted in different colors or why not use decorative papers and cover them to coordinate with your wedding theme. A coating of clear varnish will help seal your decorations.

Scented sachets are one of my personal favourites for diy wedding favors. These can be as easy or as difficult as you like to make, depending on your sewing skills of course, and can be decorated with beads, lace and ribbons and embroidered with your wedding monogram.

Create mini wired heart shaped wreaths which you can decorate with dried flowers or silk versions. Use a template to help you get the shape right and then wire on your other decorations. You can also cover the wire with ribbon or even natural colored string if you want a more rustic look. You could also create larger versions to use as decorations around your reception. Attach your thank you tags with your guests names on and hang them on the backs of their chairs as an alternative to placing them on tables.

Create your own heart shaped seed packets using stiff papers and heart shaped punches. Download a template from the internet to create your basic heart shape. Cut two from paper and on one use a heart shaped punch to create a window on the front of your seed packet. Back this window with some clear plastic so you do not loose the seeds out of it! Sew the two sides together using embroidery silk and an approx 10mm long running stitch, leaving an opening so you can fill with seeds. Close the packet and finish by tying the thread ends into a bow.
