Eat Good Fats to Lose Weight

Does it seem a little crazy to eat fat to lose weight? Yet, the right kind of fats can help you do just that.

Fats are essential to human health. But not just any kind of fats. Good fats to lose weight include polyunsaturated fatty acids like omega 3 fats. You can find these in avocadoes and especially fish.

How Does It Work?

In a 12-week trial, omega 3 fish oil was taken on a daily basis with a combination of moderate aerobic exercises. The adult participants suffered from metabolic syndrome or a cluster of other symptoms associated with obesity. These included hypertension, high blood triglycerides, and heightened insulin levels.

The results showed that the fat in the body, particularly in the belly was reduced by the combination of fish oil and exercise. The result for using fish oil alone or exercising alone is not as high although these results also showed a decrease in body fat.

It helps in burning more fat, helps in controlling hunger, and reduces the risks of common diseases associated with being overweight such as heart attacks and diabetes.

Not only can these omega 3's help you lose weight, but they're proven to also lower your blood pressure and triglyceride levels to further protect your heart. Plus, they regulate blood sugar and insulin levels in people so you can lower your risk of diabetes.

What Are the Best Diets For Weight Loss?

There are several diets developed to guide people with weight problems on how much omega 3 they need. According to the American Heart Association, eating fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines, halibut, and the like twice a week is recommended.

The Mediterranean-style diet is an example of a diet with healthy levels of these good fats.

Aside from fish as the staple meat of this diet, it is consist of fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals and bread, potatoes, beans, and whole grains. Red meat is eaten in a small serving very rarely. Poultry products are eaten in moderate quantities. Red wine is recommended as it promotes fast metabolism but only in moderate amounts. Olive oil is the primary used oil.

But recent studies from the International Journal of Obesity found that the subjects who took eight fish oil capsules or six grams of fish a day had greater levels of weight loss. You should probably talk with your doctor before you up the recommended intake.
