The importance of Auto Recycling for our Environment

The importance of Auto Recycling for our Environment

Auto recycling is a popular concept in today's world. The process involves reusing auto waste by salvaging, restoring orconverting it to scrap metal. Some persons may tend to underestimate theimportanceof auto recycling for our environment but it offers real benefits. Auto recycling is important to our environment, as it saves on natural resources, preserves landfill space, andhelps in the reduction of the harmful emissions of green house gases.

Natural Resources Saved

The natural resources that are extractedfor the manufacturing process are preserved when auto recycling is practiced. The demand for substances such asiron that would have been extracted from the environment is reduced thereby preserving the earth's reserves.

Reduction of Landfills

When vehicles are reused they are routed away from the landfills. This leaves more green space in our environment. This also reduces the amount of toxic waste that seeps into the earth. When auto waste is dumped in landfills fluids from items such as batteries may leak into the earth. This further pollutes the water sources that provide plant, and animal life with sustenance.

An Example of Auto Recycling Benefits

A filter recycling project recently conducted by Waste Free andGeneral Motors saw the prevention of the dumping of 156,000 pounds of waste in landfills. This is a practice that was commenced in the year 2007. The practice involved the reclaiming of 480 filters. There are several other instances of specific recycling projects and their benefits to our world.

Reduction of green house emissions

Since the auto manufacturing industry will have a reduced level of demand for vehicles and parts, as a result of auto recycling, the manufacturing process is reduced. This automatically means that less harmful gases are released into the atmosphere. These harmful emissions harm plant and animal life. They make the air unhealthy and assist in the proliferation of global warming. Additionally they assist in the depletion of the ozone layer which in turn puts plant and animal life at risk.

The Environmental Cost of Auto Recycling

Experts estimate that the manufacturing of each vehicle requires 120 giga joules of energy. When this energy is consumed via the manufacturing process, the harmful bi products are green house gasses as well as other harmful emissions. Imagine this figure multiplied by thousands or millions each year. This creates a huge burden on our environment .Auto recycling helps to reduce this burden.

Auto recycling therefore is not only a means of providing inexpensive auto items to consumers. It is also a very reliable method of preserving our environment for future generations.
