Pregnancy Books: Advice You Will NOT Get From Your GP!

Some pregnancy books cause more harm than good -- mostly because of the information they omit, not so much the details they include.

While there are numerous pregnancy books currently in print, we were shocked to find that truly comprehensive pregnancy guides and genuinely useful pregnancy books are actually few and far between. In fact, in our search, the only one we could all agree on as a worthwhile, comprehensive guide to conception, pregnancy, birth and beyond was "Well Adjusted Babies" by Dr Jennifer Barham-Floreani (a pediatric chiropractor and mother of four who was recently awarded "Woman of the Year" by the World Congress of Women Chiropractors).

It doesn't offer a specific gestation timeline like most pregnancy books, and while that would indeed make it a little more comprehensive, there are so many other books that cover that information, that it is hardly a necessary inclusion in Dr Jennifer's book.

We found that many other pregnancy books seemed to firstly offer a far less comprehensive view on fertility, pregnancy, childbirth and baby/toddler care post-birth, and secondarily a more old-school 'medico' based view which is not terribly holistic and seems to ignore new research regarding healthcare and the comparitive dysfunction of the non-holistic medico system/approach when contrasted with the "Allied Health" approach which predominantly focusses on solving root-causes and the more-effective 'preventative care' model rather than solely looking at (and caring for) surface-level symptomology. The key point of difference with "Well Adjusted Babies" is that it focusses broadly on all the many key factors that will influence the physical and emotional health of both mother and baby during pregnancy, birth and beyond ... rather than being simply a "timeline" of what occurs during gestation and birth.

Many women (and indeed their partners a fact I can attest to) feel powerless in the process of pregnancy and childbirth, so we applaud Dr Jennifer for offering us a book all about empowering parents with knowledge to choose healthier outcomes for them and their children.

If you're pregnant or considering pregnancy, we urge you to make sure you're getting the full picture and the holistic knowledge you need to ultimately make better decisions for you and your baby rather than simply relying on what your GP or obstetrician tells you.
