subject: The Weight Bet [print this page] The Weight Bet The Weight Bet
I have seen many incentives to try and motivate people to lose weight. Among them is the weight bet. I am not sure if anyone has ever participated in one but I would venture to say the answer is yes. I have participated in two of themwith mixed results.
The firstbet was with some neighbors whogot together and decided to do one. I thi k that was a great thing to do. It was three of us. I came in third. That was the bad news. I lost 15 pounds that was the good news. The time period of the bet was about 3 months. Now that may not sound like a lot and you would be correct to say that. However b before passing judgmentyou need to look at my competition. The first neighborwas eating coffee, salmon anda cucumber for supper each night. The other neighborate wheat thins every day for breakfast, lunch and supper. Now I want to lose weight absolutely. However, to go that far I was not willing to do. I am not sure if you would either. I preferred the slow steady course. Now the bet was for $150 cash. That was at the end of the entire three months. The other two months had a different approach. The first month was, the loser could not exercise the whole next day. I guess this gave the other people a head start. The second month, was that you had to eat a pint of BEN & Jerry's most fattening ice cream. That was so good while I ate it. Not so much when I got on the scale that night. But you know what, at the end of the day I had lost the bet but also lost some weight. I think it was a good investment.
My second bet atwork was a little funnier. I was in finance at the time and these traders and some support staff had the bet between themselves and me. The amount was less then with my neighbors,I believe it was for$100. There was no weigh in each month, just a weigh in after two months, this was also for three months, what was funny wasthe last week of the bet. I do not know if you have ever seen a trading floor. It can be intense and a little nuts. Well that Monday morning it was even more than usual. They were drinking water like there was a shortage going onand some traders eventook water pills. I think water is great and people should drink a lot of it,for the right reasons though. Also water pills are not a great idea unless medically advised. It will drain the water out of your body. In this case it was because water equaled weight. At the end of the dayone of the traders won. He would jog like 10 miles each morning and evening. He was hard core and good for him. I am not sure he kept that up, but he certainly still looks like he has lost weight. My point here is a weight bet is a good idea depending on a few factorssuch asthe prize, the people and the time period. I would certainly recommend looking into one if you can. Best of luck should you join one.
