subject: How Is The Taste Of The Medifast Shakes? [print this page] How Is The Taste Of The Medifast Shakes? How Is The Taste Of The Medifast Shakes?
Of all of the emails that I get asking about medifast foods, the shakes are the most popular topic. That's likely because the shakes are probably the most popular itemon the medifast food menu. People want to know if the shakes taste chalky, or have an artificial taste or texture. (I'm also commonly asked about after taste.)
I think that many people are thinking of the chalky, thick, and a little disgusting shakes that you buy in the drug stores.
This isn't how the medifast shakes taste. Most of them are pretty good without much after taste. They have a nice rich taste, but they are light at the same time.I prefer the chocolate and vanilla flavors. The swiss chocolate kind of reminds me of a VERY lighter version of afast foodfrostie.
But the fruit flavors (banana creme, orange creme, and strawberry creme) don't have a bad artificial flavor, they taste more like frozen sherbert.
Many people on medifast (myself included) sometimes add fat and sugar free syrups to our shakes. Raspberry syrup on a chocolate shake is wonderful. I also like to add cherry or caramel. And if I'm working witha fruit shake, I might add a chocolate syrup. But sometimes, I leave them plain.
I also know some people add fat free whipped cream to the shakes, freeze them slightly, and put them in a bowl like dessert. They are very versatile.
You may not know this, but there are a couple of different types of medifast shakes. People often are under the impression that you don't have many choices, but you do.
First up is the Medifast 55 shakes. These are probably the most popular and these are the shakes that come in the basic women's plan. They come in chocolate and vanilla flavors as well as the orange, banana and creme shake flavors. My favorites would be Swiss mocha and banana creme. (These are a good base for many recipes - you can see several of these recipes here.)
Next is the Medifast 70 shakes. These are like the 55 shakes but are more for men or very athletic people because they have a bit more calories and more protein, but the flavors are the same. I have tasted these but they aren't a regular part of my routine because I'm not an athlete and don't need the extra calories or protein.
Now, both the 55 and the 70 must be mixed together. You use a blender or a shaker. So if you're not going to have the shake right away or are going to take it to work or something you'll either have to mix it there or you mix it before hand and take it with you.
They do have shakes that are ready made and these are the Medifast Ready To Drink Shakes. You don't have to blend or mix these. They come in their own little container (with straw) pre mixed? They comein your basic chocolate and vanilla and the taste is somewhat similar to 55.
So which medifast shakes taste best? I personally like the 55 shakes. The reasons for this is because I can control their texture. I like them more thin when I am drinking them and more thick if I'm doing the whole frozen whipped cream thing. I don't mind having to mix them because I like having control and I like adding things to them.
