Your Goldendoodle loves table scraps! He or she is looking a bit over weight. What's a Goldendoodle to do ? They love to eat! Help me mama! Help me daddy! Who can resist those gorgeous, love me always eyes ? What Goldendoodle doesn't enjoy mouth watering, savory food ? We can't help outselves. A little snack here. A little snack there. This won't hurt her! It's just a sliver. Then one day, you realize your Goldendoodle has ballooned to twice the size! What happened ?
I'll tell you what happened. The same thing that happens to us humans. Aging and over indulging eventually catches up to all of us. We aren't the same as we use to be and neither is your Goldendoodle. We don't exercise like we use to and neither does your Goldendoodle. But be careful when putting your Goldendoodle on a diet. You can cause your Goldendoodle to have a seizure. How is this, you ask ?
Goldendoodles can have a seizure when their sugar level drops suddenly. This is called hypoglycemia. While small dogs are more than likely to be more prone to this issue than larger dogs, Goldendoodles can have this issue as well. Poodles in general seem to be more prone to seizures but there is really no way to know ahead of time whether a Goldendoodle will have this issue or not until unfortunately he or she suddenly does. If you have noticed your Goldendoodle is putting on extra weight, the best way to help him or her to lose weight is to feed your doodle smaller portions rather than two or three larger meals a day and leave out the snacking. Providing your Goldendoodle is in good health, exercise will help maintain a good weight for your canine. Just as you would begin an exercise program for yourself, make sure to check with your vet prior to starting an exercise program for your Goldendoodle.

There are many ways to help keep your Goldendoodle healthy. There are many great dog foods on the market. Many doodle owners opt to feed their pets home-made dinners with raw vegetables. From supplements, to essential fatty acids. From vitamins and minerals to digestive aids. Omega 3EFAs are beneficial to the immune system, the nervious system, the heart, allergies, to helpstop inflammation andto help with arthritis when your doodle begins to age. If your Goldendoodle suffers from digestive ailments, adding digestive enzymes may be beneficial, to your doodles' diet. It's important to note that while digestive enzymes are helpful for some Goldendoodles, they could cause your doodle to become worse, so use caution. If you are not able to see an improvement, discontinue using the enzymes.
Boiling chicken and mixing it into your doodle's smaller portions of dog food is another way to help your pal lose weight.

Your doodle doesn't have to go jogging to get exercise. Playing in the yard or having fun when you go outside several times a day is plenty. Sitting around and laying around doing nothing but eating will cause your doodle to gain weight. Withholding food or cutting back too much on your doodle's food can cause your Goldendoodle to have a seizure and die. Be smart. Be safe. Be sensible. Your doodle will live a long life and stay healthy.
