When you embark on this task of losing pregnancy fat, an important thing to bear in mind is that celebrity moms make bad role models.

Please do not adopt their lightening fast ways as your aim as they have dieticians, exercise gurus and a thousand other resources at their disposal. Not to mention the fat endorsement deals which make the task necessary for them.

When you aim to lose pregnancy weight, bear in mind that you have to give at least 6 months for your body to regain its original size and shape. Now an average woman gains 25-30 pounds during pregnancy, 10-15 pounds of which is lost immediately post delivery. It is the remaining 15-20 pounds that need conscious efforts.

When you think of dieting, keep these basic rules in mind.Do not cut down on your calorie intake. Breastfeeding is going to cost you around 500 calories per day. To add to that the demands of an infant are going to keep you on your toes throughout the day.

To cope with that, your body needs a lot of energy. Cutting down on calories is bound to leave you exhausted, something you can't afford with all the work to be done.

What you can and should cut down on is excessive fats. You really don't need it. Also avoid canned and ready-to-eat foods, even the ones which claim they contain no fat. While it was alright to pamper your cravings during pregnancy, it is a strict no-no when it comes to losing pregnancy weight.

Increase the intake of healthy foods like fruits and nuts. Also drink plenty of water. If possible, completely substitute any sugar drinks and sodas with water and lemon juice.

Also bear in mind that your body is not ready to take any vigorous activity for at least 2 months post pregnancy. You can engage in short walks and light jogging, but any other severe exercises should be avoided during this period.

Yoga is a great way of exercising your body and mind after pregnancy.

The different sets of yoga positions specially targeting the problem areas are worth looking up, as they provide gentle yet effective means of losing fat.

Once you feel up to it, you can go for more vigorous exercising and dieting, but you should ideally wait for 3 months after pregnancy.
