Growing Trend in Wedding Announcements

What's New?I try to keep my up on wedding trends. Not so much the ceremony and reception, but movements involving wedding accessories. The last few years have seen a dramatic increase in the utilization of Save the Date magnets. (Who ever invented Save the Date magnets deserves be a millionaire. Those things are everywhere!)

In Case You Didn't Know...No doubt you are aware of them, but for the rare few readers who are not, Save the Date magnets are flexible gadgets similar to refrigerator magnets on which couples print information about their upcoming wedding. No, they do not take the place of a formal wedding invitation. They are sent out months earlier than the invitations so the family and friends that receive them can begin adjusting their schedules in order to attend the wedding. Most of them simply provide the date of the wedding, without details such as time, location, etc. Those elements are traditionally left for the official invitation.

They Are More Than Merely Practical. The beauty of these products is...well, it is their beauty. Couples customize their magnets with pictures of themselves with dramatic backgrounds, or often the picture involves a theme. A young couple that was recently married provided magnets showing them sitting an old wooden fence. They were dressed in western style clothes, and had other western/cowboy accoutrements here and there. The wedding ceremony itself took place in a fancy park with a huge barn-like building. The bride wore a fairly traditional gown, but the rest of the wedding party dressed in formal western wear. It was a cowboy wedding! The magnet indicated the theme so the guests could opt to dress in the same fashion. Not everyone would want a wedding like that, but my point is that your save the date magnet can reflect your personalities, your lifestyle and your fantasies.

But Practicality Is Important.Being the practical person I am, my favorite aspect of Save the Date magnets is their ability to allow people to plan well ahead of time to be present at the wedding. Today's lifestyles are generally so hectic that everyone appreciates an early 'heads up' about coming events. Let's face it; few of us have the luxury of being able to take off work at the drop of a hat. Other invitees live out of town and need to make hotel reservations. Depending on the time of the year and the location for the wedding, it can be difficult to book a room at the last moment.

The bottom line is this. Save the Date magnets are fun and allows the couple to express themselves, but they do the most good by alerting people in advance of the couple's intent. Everyone wins with Save the Date magnets.
