Raise Your Metabolism and Burn Fat Like an Active Teenager

Raise Your Metabolism and Burn Fat Like an Active Teenager

One objective of building muscle mass is to raise your metabolism. Individuals who want to burn off their excess fat have two choices. They can perform lots of cardio exercises like jogging on a treadmill every day. Or, they can increase their metabolism.Elevating your metabolism is well within your reach. Each pound of muscle on your body uses up somewhere between 35 and 50 calories per day. An elite athlete in an intensive muscle building program could add around two-thirds of a pound of lean muscle mass in a week. And, we've all seen star athletes add over a pound of muscle mass every week with steroid use.For the typical one who is not engaged in an elite training program and isn't using illegal drugs, your muscle building results will be less impressive. An average person might go to the gym around three days a week. Doing some resistance training for 20 to 30 minutes at the gym could add about a quarter of a pound of lean muscle mass in a week. Of course, how intensely you train and what muscle groups you exercise will produce a big difference here. And, as you first start exercising you might add muscle mass noticeably faster than this. What does all this muscle building resistance training mean in terms of losing fat?Let's take it little by little. After one week of resistance training you will have gained about a quarter pound of lean muscle mass. You will have increased your metabolism by about 10 calories a day. Doing these workouts for four weeks increases your metabolism by around 40 calories a day. Well, that doesn't seem like a lot. Is all this exercise going to be worth it?These results are, indeed, worthwhile since the effects continue to accumulate from month to month. Working out for only three months will boost your metabolism by over 120 calories a day. Here is an interesting fact. The average person uses about 120 calories to jog a mile. So, you've basically just added a mile jog every single day to your fat burning routine. And, because you actually use those muscles whenever you do any sort of exercise (like walking, climbing stairs, mowing the grass) you will benefit as those new muscles use even more calories. Now, not all those calories are burning fat. Muscles burn both fat and sugars for energy. The proportion of fats they burn varies. Muscles at rest (during sleep, for example) burn a higher proportion of fat (some say around 80%). Muscles working hard use more sugar for fast energy and may burn around 30% fat or so. What effect does this have on getting rid of your extra fat?Just how much will this increase metabolism?Three months of resistance exercise will have raised your metabolism by at least 120 calories each day. The increase a result of new muscle mass is going to be burning off at least two-thirds of a pound of fat each and every month. And, the more exercise you get just moving around, the more fat your new muscles will consume. And, unless you happen to be sick and in bed, everyone gets some exercise each day.You have increased your metabolism. Your new muscle mass is burning up fat and helping you slim down. The best part is that you are reducing your weight unconsciously even without having to continue your time consuming cardiovascular exercises.
