It's hard enough to be organized. It's hard enough to be a mom. And to be an organized mom!!! One of the biggest reasons being an organized mom is so hard is that moms have... kids. And kids have... toys. Everybody knows about kids and toys: They love them and the number of them is always growing and... they have to be stored. Here are a few quick ideas on toy storage that will make at least this aspect of being an organized mom a little easier.
Since space is almost always limited and since the number of toys your child has seems to be infinite, you may need to be little creative about where and how you store toys. Fortunately, there are lots of options available on the market today.
The first and most obvious option is the traditional toy box or toy chest. These come in different colors, themes, and shapes and are great as decorative elements in a room as well as for storage and even extra seating. Features to consider in a toy chest - and in all toy storage - include sturdiness, ease of cleaning, ease of use (e.g., Can your child lift the lid by himself?), and safety (e.g., Does the lid have safety hinges to prevent it from slamming shut?).
If you have shelving for storage, baskets or cubbies might work well for your child. These come in a variety of sizes and materials (plastic, canvas, mesh, etc.) and allow you to sort toys into different categories (balls, blocks, stuffed animals, etc.). If you don't have shelving or need to move toys from room to room, consider a wheeled cubby bin or toy totes.
If you're really short of space, consider vertical or underbed storage. A toy hammock can be suspended from the wall and makes putting toys away about as easy as it gets. Also available are mesh hanging toy organizers (these can hang from the ceiling or a closet rod), toy chains, and pocketed organizers that can be hung on the back of a door as well as wheeled containers that can be rolled under a bed.
