Think objectively
Does mom really need more flowers? Does she really need the king size super deluxe floral arrangement that has flowers from the Amazon rainforest? They're going to die any way, if not in two days then in a week. Flowers are flowers; the typical mom gift. No matter how big the arrangement is, it's still going to die. What you've just done is spent a whole lot of money on a whole lot of nothing. If you've really got that much cash to burn, burn it on something that's worthwhile.
Think outside the box
For every person who vows to get their mom a gift that's totally out of the box' there are at least ten who will sell out for flowers. The odds aren't in your favor; thinking outside the box doesn't mean getting something other than a box of chocolates. Your gift is supposed to be something your mom will love and it should have absolutely nothing to do with boxes of chocolates or flowers.

How committed are you to getting mom something original? If you're 100% on it than forget that flowers and chocolate boxes exist and start looking for real mothers day gifts. This is probably the real question to ask if you're looking for gifts for mom. Don't think you can walk into a mall and expect big flashy signs to point you to a store for unique and perfect mothers day gifts. That's never going to happen. Shop every where you know that might have something your mom or wife (who happens to be the mother of your children) would like. It can be in a store or online. Take gift baskets, go online and search the hell out of every kind. Try mothers day fruit baskets, or a unique concept like fruit bouquets, if you can have a circus elephant bring your mom balloons that say 'Happy Mother's day', go for it. The point is to think big and think original.
