One of the world's best rhythmic gymnasts, Anna Bessonova, was born in Kiev, Ukraine on July 29, 1984. It's no surprise this hot Ukrainian woman became such a talented athlete. Her father was a professional football player who played in the FIFA World Cup three times (1982, 1986, and 1990), while her mother was a two-time world champion rhythmic gymnast. It was her mother who awakened Anna's desire to become a world-renowned gymnast.
Though Anna's mother originally wanted her to pursue ballet, Anna was always attracted to gymnastics and at the age 5 she began training with former rhythmic champions and mother/daughter coach team Albina Deriugina and Irnia Deriugina. Anna followed a grueling training schedule and this rhythmic training along with her early interest in ballet, helped Anna develop a uniquely elegant style that sets her apart from other performers.
Throughout her illustrious career, Anna has won over 24 World Championship medals, 24 European Championship Medals, 10 World Cup medals, and 6 World Games Medals. She also won the bronze individual all around medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2004 Athens Olympics.
After a long and prosperous career, Anna, now 25, has decided to retire and she performed for the final time on March 21, 2010, at the Grand Prix Deryugina Cup in Kiev. Though fans will miss her, they can't help but respect Anna's decision to leave the sport at the top of her game.
Per Wikipedia, Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which individuals or teams of competitors (generally five) manipulate one or two apparatus: rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon. It combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation.
