subject: Men Getting Slimmer And Trimmer Through Liposuction [print this page]

With plastic surgery becoming an ever-increasingly popular fad, liposuction has come out on top as one of the most frequently undergone plastic surgeries. Most people immediately think of women wanting to improve their body image, but actually, more and more men have opted to have lipoplastic surgery.

One suggested reason for the increase in men having the procedure is the increasing competitiveness and emphasis on appearance in the workplace and job market. Many men want to look better to assume the air of success.

There are obviously differences, however, between surgery for men and for women. Liposuction for males tends to be slightly more expensive than for females, for a couple of different reasons.

Men are typically larger than are women, making the area a surgeon must work with larger and harder to span. Also, men's fat is also generally more fibrous than women's fat, making it more difficult to remove.

As always, it's good to discuss prices with a few different surgeons before choosing or choosing not to have the surgery.

Men generally choose to have liposuction performed in the following areas: "love handles" or waist area, face, neck, and breasts.

The procedure for removing fat around a man's abdomen and getting rid of his "love handles" is pretty much the same as the process for women. However, men generally tend to have their greatest fat pockets toward their backs and opt to have the surgery to get rid of the bulge over the belt.

Also, interestingly enough, men are choosing to reshape their faces and necks with liposuction, to give them a more youthful, slim, well-rested appearance. In the neck, the fat is suctioned through an incision under the chin or behind the ear. With this specific form of liposuction, many surgeons also recommend having the skin tightened afterward.

Finally, it is becoming increasingly common for men to have fat removed in their breasts to eliminate the appearance of "man boobs," sometimes referred to as "moobs." The technical term for it is gynecomastia, or the enlargement of the male breast often due to a hormonal imbalance.

The procedure is also popular, because the necessary incisions are small, so scarring is practically invisible. However, not all men who want this kind of liposuction can get it. If the breasts are enlarged with glandular tissue as opposed to fatty tissue, the procedure cannot be performed.

Also, if the male breasts are uneven inside, doctors recommend that the male get a mammogram to test for cancerous tumors.

Liposuction is no longer exclusively for women.
