After a certain period of trying to get pregnant, most couples will become concerned about their infertility. Infertility is officially considered to be a year of unprotected sex without conception, but some couples may become concerned before then.
In 2002 11.9% of the women in this between the ages of 15 and 44 years of age have received some sort of infertility services. 6.1% have received professional advice. 5.5% of women have received some sort of medical help to prevent a miscarriage. 4.8% have undergone a fertility test. 3.8% of women have received ovulation drugs. And 1.1% of women have received artificial insemination. Out of the 11.8% of these women, there is also an issue with carrying a baby for the entire pregnancy term of nine months. Some women do conceive readily enough, but their uterus shows problems of being able to keep and nurture the embryo to full term.
As a woman's age progresses, her ability to bear children decreases with the decrease in egg production. Woman who had no children and were between the ages of 35 and 39 is 15.2%, and these women have received some sort of services for infertility. For woman ages 30 to 34 the number was 17.3%, and woman ages 15 to 29, it was only 2.9%. Woman who were married but with no children and were infertile between the ages of 15 to 44 are broken down as follows. Between the ages of 40 and 44, 27.4% of women are infertile. Ages 35 to 39 is 22.6%, 30 to 34 is 16.9% and 15 to 29 is 11%.
If you are having difficulty with getting pregnant or keeping the pregnancy that does not necessarily mean that it is not possible to do so. The percentages of live births after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) was about 38% for 31 year olds, 22% for 38 year olds, but after the age of 43 dropped to less than 10 % success rate for live births. When woman used an egg donor, it increases their chances to a whopping 45 % rate of success. This was more amazing than women who used their own eggs who were in their early 30's.
