Halloween Kick's Off Shopping Season
Halloween Kick's Off Shopping Season

Tis the season to be scary. Halloween is full of glitz and glamour, scary and sizzle. The shopping frenzy begins before October 31st with costumes, makeup, candy and fun food. A prelude to a Holiday season full of shopping, parties, friends and family.

The old Halloween traditions ain't got nothin' on the new ways to celebrate. All Hallows Eve originated fromthe Catholic observance of All Saints Day, where the dead were given reverence. Celtic tradition was to build bon fires, adorning themselves with masks and animal skins to ward off the evil spirits. The Irish coming from the potato famine, implimented knocking door to door for food and money whichtranslated into "Trick or Treating".The Romans had the Festival of Feralis, a celebration of life passing to death and so as the summer is to winter, a passing of the greengrass to harvest time hay.

TheEuropean cultures brought bits and piecesof theirtraditionsfrom costume wearing and early ghost busting to candy giving and recieving, when they came to America.Grown-ups and children alike took part in the festivities bringing the community together.Coming from such somber roots, Halloween turned into quite a fun celebration of life, instead of the old traditions of trying to scare the dead back to death.

Communities, schools and churches find safe ways forthe childrento celebrate since the knocking on door (trick or treating) business has gotten more risky throughout the years. Mom's and dad's always told thier kids "Don't take candy from strangers" except on Halloween? That never seemed quite right but parents and kids took their chances. Now it's back to a more controlled atmosphere where our children are making great memories and staying safe while doing so. The adult parties start early in October so no one is left out. Don't forget your D.D. (Designated driver).

Halloweenhas gotten to bebig business, a1/4 of all candy sales in the U.S. are attributed to this Holiday. Costumes are sold, reserved and rented way before the first leaves fall. Online shopping sites are gearing up for the big day and beyond. The Christmas seasonsteps right on the heels of Halloween. Although money has been a bit tight for most, people still need a reason to celebrate life and each other. No matter how weak the economy has been, mom will always find a way to buy that specail costume for her little prince or princess.
