subject: Preparing For A Baby [print this page] Having a baby is a lot more complicated that I ever thought. And I'm not talking about the actual process of having the baby and getting him out of womb. I mean the preparation and the amount of stuff that has to be purchased or borrowed in order to supply the little guy during his first few months on the earth. Although this is my first baby, I've learned some things about baby preparation both through trial and error that I think will help me with the next one.
One of the most important things I've learned is that it pays to be patient. When we first found out we were having a baby I wanted to run out that day and buy all the needed accessories. I discovered soon thought that babies need a lot of stuff that I knew nothing about. I had no idea what good prices on baby supplies were and no idea what the best products were or where to get them. As I now approach the end of the pregnancy, I've acquired a few good things through deals and had the majority of the baby supplies loaned to me or bought for us by wonderful parents and in-laws.
Another thing I think is important to remember is that it's a good idea to buy a few really well made things than waste a lot of money on poorly made or beat up used products. I did buy a few things used but I made sure to check them out first and make sure they were high quality and in good condition. I would even have this buying mantra extend into the area of baby hygiene supplies. There are some wonderful products out there for babies that are worth the extra few dollars. Nu Skin care products and Jergens lotions are a few lines I'd recommend buying for your baby's bathing and skin needs. A little extra money spent on quality products will save you time and money in the end on doctor's bills for skin rashes and irritations.
As with most things in life, finding good baby supplies requires patience, money, and budgeting. You don't have to break the bank getting ready for a new arrival. Just collect a few things along the way so when the little bundle is born he or she will be well equipped. And remember, the baby doesn't need rooms full of toys and clothes. He just needs warmth, love, and food. And those are easier to provide than you think.
