It is an event where everyone can feel equal. It is also an event where people back then can have fun without being Catholic yet. It is a good way because it was able to link a very pagan event to a Christian religion aspect because it is linked to the Lenten season.
3. The third possible answer to the question, why is carnival celebrated in France is because the French wanted to have a precursor to the Roman feast called Lupercalia in the middle ages. These festivals were events where people can become unruly and people can just do everything they want.
