Toast for Wedding Party
Toast for Wedding Party

Wedding toasts come in all shapes and sizes. They could happen at an engagement party or rehearsal dinner. They could be delivered by the best man or just a friend. But whatever form they come in, they are a fun and honored tradition that is a great part of weddings. If you have to give a toast, don't worry. This task is a lot easier than you may think it is.

Even the bride and groom sometimes have to give a wedding toast. If this is your situation, you shouldn't worry. There are so many other aspects of your wedding that require more attention and concern. When the bride or groom has to give a toast at their wedding, it is often simply to thank their guests. Speak honestly and from your heart. Be humble and thankful. Some of your guests have probably traveled far. If there is anyone who deserves a special mention, make sure you keep them in mind. Overall though, keep it short and keep it simple. You want to thank your guests and the people who have made your big day possible, but you don't want to bore everyone with a huge list of names.

But what if you aren't the bride or groom? Then things may get a little more complicated.

Often a best man or maid of honor will need to give a speech. While you should take this honor seriously, you should not stress out over it. A toast has a lot more leeway than a father of the bride type of speech. You can be more informal and funny. There is more room for you to take risks and relax.

Personal experiences always work well. And as the friend of the bride or groom, you probably have plenty to share. Since this is a toast, you can be a little more harsh. You can tell an embarrassing story in a toast. Don't be afraid to make the bride blush. At the same time, don't overdo it. There are probably children at the wedding, so keep it as clean as you can. And while it's fine to make the bride blush, you don't want to humiliate her or her husband on their big day. Now how to temper the slightly embarrassing stories with sincere expressions of encouragement and love.

Look far and wide for your inspiration. You have fewer boundaries to worry about. Some toasts are inspired by personal experiences, others by funny quotes, others by movies even. Whatever works for you, don't be afraid to go with it. Just make sure you have something original to say if you are drawing your inspiration from an outside source. It's fine to be inspired by a movie or song, but your toast shouldn't be one long quote. Make sure your own words are in there too.

Have fun with the toast. Whether you are the best man or an usher or the father of the bride, the toast is not something you should be stressed about. It is a lighthearted and fun way to commemorate the day. Look for inspiration in whatever works for you, mix in a dash of your own words and thoughts and viola! You have your toast. Now all you have to do is take a deep breath, stand up and deliver it.
