Planning a Wedding for Brisbane's Climate

So you are planning to get married in Brisbane. Even if you are not having an outdoor wedding, you need to consider what the weather may be like at the time of year you are planning to tie the knot. Brisbane in Australia has a temporate climate with fine weather most of the year. The following factors should be considered before discussing the climate and what time of year is appropriate:

What to consider

Indoor - Just because your wedding is indoors does not mean you can discount the weather. Even if you are planning to have your wedding in a well air conditioned venue, your guests must get to and from the wedding.

Outdoor - The weather is even more important when the wedding is outdoors. In particular if there is limited shade or shelter. Rain or a strong sun can make your guests struggle to enjoy the beautiful surrounds of the location you have selected.

Time of Day - The time of day is also critical, and not just because of the sun. Brisbane's summer weather tends to have regular storms at certain times of the day, as well as coastal winds that vary depending on the time of the day.

How Many Guests - How many guests are you planning to invite. Your beach wedding in the middle of th day may sound great until you invite 100 guests and they are all trying to fit into the one bit of shade.

Seasons of Brisbane

Summer Heat - Between January and Febuary Brisbane is very hot and humid, and as such suits and heavy clothing is very uncomfortable. If you plan to have an outdoor wedding at this time of year, make sure it is well shaded and out of the direct sun. Also try to ensure it is well ventilated and open to the wind.

Storm Season - Brisbane has a storm season that runs from approximately September to December. The storms can be very regular, occuring late in the afternoon or night, with strong winds, hail and heavy rain. Even an indoor wedding or reception needs to be well protected from the strong winds. If you plan to have a wedding at this time of year make sure you provide safe harbour for your guests.

Winter Chill - Brisbane has a mild winter, and as such you can get married in winter without being concerned. The winter is also well suited for heavy clothing like suits.

Contingency Plan

When planning your wedding in Brisbane, always remember to have a contingency in place so that if bad weather does occur you are not left without a backup option. Ensure you have a sheltered area to hold the wedding if you plan to have it outdoors. This includes one that is protected from the wind!
