The last possible reason for the weight gain could have come from a recent pregnancy. Having never given birth myself, I cannot comment specifically on that experience from a first persons' account. However, being both a father and an uncle as well as having friends that have had children, the impediment that "baby weight" gives to the new mother, can and should be temporary. The reasons have now increased drastically as to why you must maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Doing so will curtail the aging process so that you can remain active with your child for many more years than had you reverted back to a permanent sedentary lifestyle.
