Keeping the kids entertained can seem like an impossible task sometimes, especially when they are down with a cold or a tummy bug and need to be kept indoors. Unable to run around or get messy, you're likely to have an unhappy child on your hands, especially when they are over the worst part of their illness.

While you might wish you could sit and relax with your child while they are feeling unwell, the chances are that you won't be able to put a stop to your daily tasks forever - and that's when it becomes difficult to make sure your little one's illness isn't compounded by boredom. Luckily, modern entertainment technology means that there are options to keep young minds busy, even when they aren't able to run around.

Since the advent of the TV, there has been a new weapon in the battle against daytime boredom for children, although the available programmes once weren't always very reliable when it came to suitability for children. Gone are the days when you had to worry that they wouldn't be able to find anything suitable to watch on TV on a weekday morning. These days there are dedicated channels that will make sure your kids are only watching programs appropriate to their age range, a weight off your mind if you have things to get on with and can't sit with your child.

When you have a sore head, reading can be tricky. However, audio books played on a low volume can be an ideal solution and can provide some soothing entertainment when it's needed most. On the other hand, if you have a laptop and your child is feeling well enough, you could help them to find some simple games or child friendly sites that will give them something to do without needing much in the way of physical interaction. This is a good choice if you aren't able to join in playing games with your child, but make sure you get them to show you what they've been doing when you have a moment.

Make sure you have security features in place and compare broadband usage to your deal to make sure you don't go above any limits or run up any high bills.

On the other hand, choosing a nice film can be a good choice when you're looking for something to fill a few hours. With the range of film channels available on most subscription services, it shouldn't be too difficult to find one that will suit your needs. Be careful about the films you choose though, unless you want to find yourself snuggled up on the sofa watching them with your child!
