Blooming In The Retirement Years

Consider that you are in your retirement years, which lifestyle would you prefer ?

Would you just prefer to simply sit and relax, eat and sleep anyway you have been working for years, not to engage in anything productive , will just waste your years away until your death ?

Or you would prefer to be engaged in worthwhile endeavours that will require much of your talent, time and energy ?

Which is the best way to spend the retirement years ?

In this article, I feature some people who still prefer to be active in work in their retirement years. For me they are a source of inspiration for living. They take away my fears of aging. Their lives just reveal that you can still be productive in old age and can even bloom. It reveals that age is not a hindrance to productivity. As long as you have the zeal for life and willing to help people, you can be a person of great value despite your old age.

First, let me introduce to you Miss Virginia Pena. She is the present educational consultant of the school where my girlfriend practiced her teaching career in 2009. I am greatly inspired by this great woman.

Miss Pena before she became an educational consultant , she held a high-ranking position in Department of Education in Las Pinas, Metro Manila., Philippines for more than twenty years. After she retired at the age of 65 years old, she is not willing to simply relax and sit down and waste her retirement years away. She applied as an educational consultant at Augustinian Abbey School in Metro Manila. Today, she has been there for about three years enjoying a fruitful career guiding the teachers of Augustinian Abbey School. According to her, she found the end of the rainbow at Augustinian Abbey School.

Another very inspiring person is Mr. Nestor Sonza , the Baragay Chairman-elect of a certain community in Manila. Barangay is a cluster of 100 to 300 families in the Philippines. Mr. Nestor Sonza has served as Barangay Chairman in their community before in his earlier years but unseated twice. He has been in constant bout with diabetes and is currently under medication for this debilitating disease. But this circumstance does not become a hindrance for him to run again for Barangay Chairman this year.

Today, Mr. Nestor Sonza at the age of 70 years old was reelected as Barangay Chairman. He does not allow old age or any weakening ailment to hinder him in achieving noble purposes in life.

The third person in this article is an enterprising woman by the name of Mrs. Lita Gallardo. Mrs. Lita Gallardo has been managing her tutorial center for more than twenty years. She was a former accountant who resigned from her work and preferred to venture in business. This coming December, she will be turning 60 years old, but she is not retiring. She has no plans of closing her business. Instead she accepted tutorial assignments in English and Accounting. She conducts tutorial sessions herself and will not stop everything she has been doing when she turn 60 this coming December.

Most of the people eagerly anticipates the age of sixty, the retirement age. The time when they will no longer work, the time when all they have to do is simply sit, relax, eat, sleep and be merry.

But there is a different group of retirees who anticipates the retirement age to venture into more productive and worthwhile activbities that will be beneficial to many people. As we enter the retirement years, we have to keep in mind not to waste away our remaining years , instead we are to look at it as a privilege of investing our lives for the things that are of eternal value.
