How to Become an eBay Trader

If you've never seen or heard about eBay, then I have to assume that you've never been online or that you've been on a different planet for a while! For the sake of you that are looking at the screen blankly, eBay is an online auction and sales site that offers sellers the opportunity to list their goods, either for direct sale or for auction, and uses PayPal (which the company now owns) to process payments.

Most people that offer goods on eBay are just people like you, who have some old stuff lying around their house that they'd like to sell however, there are those that are making a living trading on eBay. Here's how they do it.

First, they find something to sell. Either it's something they already have (a product, or something they own) or it's something they can get (via drop shippers or a local producer). Some even buy things offline, through classifieds, to resell for profit on eBay.

Then, they register for an account (eBay has a variety of accounts, from free personal accounts, to full on web stores!)

They pay the small listing fee that is refunded if no sale is made.

They decide whether they want to have a straight sale, or offer the item for auction. Then they set the price or the reserve price, enter shipping costs and other information, and their ad goes live.

When someone buys the item, they pay for it, and it's shipped to the client.

Of course, a once off sale, that makes you say, $20, isn't going to be a career. However, if you decide to become a professional eBay trader, and you can make 100 sales a month at $20 each, that's already $2 000 in your pocket.

It can take time to build up an eBay trading business, and your success depends on what your input cost is, and how much profit you're making. However, it's a relatively low maintenance online business option, and great for someone who's looking for something to do on the side!
