General Look at TaylorMade Rescue TP Hybrid

The Rescue TP Hybrid isdesigned for highly skilled players seeking a Tour-caliber trajectory and greater workability from their hybrid clubs.

The Rescue TP has a smaller, more compact steel clubhead with a lower, more forward center of gravity and less offset to help better players achieve a lower, more penetrating ball flight, more control, and more workability.

"The current trend in hybrids is toward larger-sized heads and lower CGs," said Tom Olsavsky, TaylorMade's senior director of metalwood creation,(TaylorMade Rescue Hybrids 2009) in the news release. "Meanwhile, tour pros asked us for a smaller, sleeker head with a more forward CG to help them keep the ball under control. We complied by creating the Rescue TP."

Category: Better Player Hybrids

We tested: 3 (19) and 4 (22) with Aldila VooDoo VS8 graphite shaft

Company line: "Rescue TP features Flight Control Technology,' which allows you to change the face angle, loft and lie angle. The new, compact head shape has a lower center of gravity (CG) and low-friction sole, which make the club versatile, playable and long."

OUR TESTERS SAY:

PROS: Among the best-performing hybrids; the ability to adjust clubface angle is a big bonus; great from the rough and fairway bunkers; some testers experience noticeable distance gains; crisp, firm, satisfying sensation on solid hits; iron-like consistency; (TaylorMade Burner Rescue 09)one of the best looking hybrids, much-preferred shape and size compared to recent TaylorMade models; playable around greens.

CONS: A few panelists find that other hybrids offer more forgiveness; faster swingers seem more able to maximize its performance than moderate-swing-speed

From Golf Magazine: (2009 Buyer's Guide)

Dr. Benoit Vincent, Chief Technical Officer, TaylorMade: "Our first Rescue delivered new performances in challenging on-course situations. Since then, we've researched solutions to manage ball flight direction (hybrids often have draw bias compared to the irons they replace). Rescue TP has our compact adjustable mechanism, which allows you to dial in preferred lateral trajectory."

How it works: Rescue TP and standard Rescue both have stainless steel heads with extremely thin (0.6 mm), light walls. The light crown allows 8 extra grams to be used in the sole. The effect is a higher launch and less spin. Rescue TP also features "flight control technology" (similar to the R9 driver and fairway woods). Eight face angle settings (2 closed to 2 open) provide up to 30 yards difference in left-to-right flight. The standard Rescue has a fixed setting (high-draw bias).
