Today I read an article on google.news about a college professor of nutrition from Kansas State named Mark Haub. He lost weight eating mainly Twinkies. He reportedly ate mainly non nutritious junk foods like Doritos as well.
So what's the big deal? He lost 27 lbs! this may sound shocking to you; but it's really basic science; not a magic trick. Yes, he has children; so to put up a good parental front he ate some veggies with the family meal.
So how did he do it? He ate 4-5 times a day and munched on the junk food. For those of you wondering how many Twinkies did he eat? You're on the right track! He restricted his calories to 1800 a day. That is 12 Twinkies a day. Do you believe you could go all day on 12 Twinkies? I believe I would still be hungry; as no fiber, processed junk food is not very filling.
Of course it is also low in vital nutrients. I believe he probably took a lot of vitamins and supplements as well; but this is my personal speculation.
This only proves what I was taught in medical school. For weight loss purposes a calorie is a calorie. If you burn more energy than you eat; you lose weight. If you eat more calories than you burn; you gain weight.
I suppose this was his intent of the P.R. stunt. To draw attention to the fact that obese people eat too many calories; period the end. A disclaimer at this point. This is unhealthy and downright dangerous if you are a diabetic or have hypertension or high cholesterol.
