subject: Eat All You Want and Lose Weight [print this page] Eat All You Want and Lose Weight Eat All You Want and Lose Weight
When I was in college a few years ago, ha, ha, I had a lot of temptations. My family always sat down and had healthy meals. There was always a main course and vegetables along with a glass of milk or water. Rarely did we have juice and soda. That would be a special treat for later in the evening.
When I got to college that changed. There was no longer someone to decide what the meals would be. Instead, there was the school cafeteria, and in that cafeteria you could pick just about any food you wanted. I've joked around before that I could probably live on pizza. I say joked because I have enough common sense to know that would be a serious mistake. Back on track, though, I could've ordered a pizza for lunch and dinner. I probably would have had something else for breakfast. Don't want to overdo a good thing. But, I chose to exercise self control and stick to the plan that I had become familiar with my whole life. Choose a decent main course and some fruit or vegetables and a glass of milk.
That wasn't the only temptation, there was desert. There was no one there to tell you, you couldn't have desert whenever you want. There were pies, pudding, cake, cookies and other daily delectables. I had never been around that either.
Then, one of the big parts of college life is parties, you'd start out having your friends over or going to their place for a drink, then going out to socialize at a local establishment for another drink. And so on. Then to top it off you'd stop at a fast food place for the midnight snack. The first part of the night is not good to begin with, but then you add the late night eating on and you just add to the problem.
I'm just using the college theme as an example. Unfortunately college is a place where a lot of people start the weight gain and continue throughout their life. I'm using this as an example of what self control can do for you.
Self control weight loss is just knowing when to say when. When you're going to a restaurant ask if they have smaller portions for a lower price. If they don't that's ok too. No, I'm not saying go ahead and eat the whole portion. Restaurants are notorious for providing large servings. I don't think I can remember the last time I heard someone say the restaurant was great, but the servings were too big.
Restaurants serve large servings to keep you coming back. If they didn't give you those large servings you wouldn't come back and they'd be out of business. What is the best thing to do, eat enough to give you that full feeling and stop. Put the rest in a doggy bag. That old saying about cleaning your plate came from the days when you'd go out after dinner and chop some wood, burning off many of the calories you just taken in.
