Getting Prepared For Teeth Whitening Treatment

There are a number of different reasons why you would choose a teeth whitening treatment. Perhaps you just want your teeth to be a bit whiter for confidence in public situations. Other people may need to get their teeth as white as possible before having veneers, crowns, or dentures put on, etc. Whatever your reason may be, it's important to get your teeth properly prepared.

Before Your Teeth Whitening Treatment

* Be sure to assess your level of tooth sensitivity. If you find your overly sensitive to hot or cold foods and beverages, it's best to consider trying milder products such as toothpastes or brush on treatments. If they don't do the trick for you, then you can later move on to products known to cause increased sensitivity.

* It's a wonderful idea to have your teeth professionally cleaned by a dentist, or hygienist to remove any plaque or tarter build up. If you start with a really clean set of teeth to begin with, the end result will be much better.

* If you plan to use bleaching products, or laser/light treatments, use a sensitivity reducing toothpaste for about a week leading up to beginning teeth whitening treatment.

After You Whiten

* Try, if at all possible, to avoid or limit coffee, tea, cola, sugary treats and cigarettes. The more of these you consume, the faster you will have to whiten again.

* Brush at least twice per day, and floss in the evening. Many people limit themselves to once a day brushing, which leaves the door open for stains and cavities to form.

* Have your teeth professionally cleaned at least twice a year. Yet another thing people often put off, but keeping plaque from forming and having your teeth polished will go a long way to preventing stains.

Keep On A Schedule

If you want to keep your teeth looking their best, make sure you brush when you're supposed to, see the dentist at the prescribed times and incorporate a teeth whitening treatment once per year. Laziness often leads all of us to be unhappy with our appearance and a good routine will help keep your teeth looking the way you want them to.
