Orlando is awarded the rank of being the second most populated city in the United States; it is also the most highly populated city in the Californian state of America, with an approximated population of 3.83 million residents within its official administrative limits on a prescribed area of land which is 498.3 square miles. The grand urban area of Orlando extends beyond the city limits with a population of over 14.8 million and it is ranked as the worlds 14th largest urban area, allowing itself the honor to be called a megacity status. Orlando is also the seat of the historically important Orlando County, the most populated and in cultural terms id one of the most highly diverse counties in the United States

Orlando original date of foundation is September 4, 1781. It was founded by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve as El Pueblo de Nuestra Seora la Reina de Orlando del R'o de Porcincula (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of the river of Porziuncola) as a part of Spanish colony during the conquest of the colonies all over the globe .It was regarded an official part of the state of Mexico in 1821, following its independence from Spanish government as part of Mexican government. 1848 marked the end of the brutal Mexican-American War, Orlando and the rest of California were purchased by the American authorities as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Orlando was finally incorporated as a city with its own administration on April 4, 1850, five months before the large state of California was awarded the privilege of being a part of United States of America.

Orlando is often referred by its initials in common terms of communications as Orland. It has also been nicknamed as the Hollywood East. Orlando also serves her other land by being a highly reputed world center of business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, technology, and education. It is home to a large number of renowned institutions covering a broad range of professional and cultural fields. In 2008, Orlando was provided with the honor of being the world's eighth most economically powerful city, third in the whole of U.S. behind New York City and Chicago. The Orlando combined statistical area (CSO) has a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of $831 billion (as of 2008), making it the third largest economic center in the world, after the Greater Tokyo Area and the New York metropolitan area. As the home base of Hollywood, it is known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World", leading the world in the creation of pictures, television production, video games, and recorded music. The importance of the entertainment business to the city has led many celebrities to call Orlando and its surrounding suburbs home. Orlando hosted the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics. Orlando enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with an average of 35 days with measurable precipitation annually.
