subject: Creating A Kids Birthday Party Checklist [print this page]

When you were a kid, there were always 3 times of year when you expected really neat things to happen. Easter always brought out the Easter Bunny which meant little gifts, candy, eggs and all kinds of fun. And Christmas was always a huge event with weeks of anticipation starting at Thanksgiving, and going all the way through New Years, but Christmas Day being the ultimate because of all the presents. But the other day in the year which was at least as special as Christmas was your birthday. Cake and presents and friends and games were always on the agenda and having a great kid's birthday party was always a blast.

Today, as parents, we know that the best kid's birthday parties involve effort, time and money. While a lot of money isn't terribly necessary, at least enough for a killer cake and a present or two is required. But the important parts are the effort and time. Having a checklist handy to organize your thoughts and the party can cut the effort and time factors down significantly, enabling you to enjoy the party as well.

First on the checklist has to be inviting people. Who are you going to invite, and then making sure you get the invitations sent out in plenty of time for the party. Next, making sure you've got a theme for the party helps organize everything around a central focal point. Getting all of the decorations and making sure the cake will be ready will be next on the agenda. As the date gets closer, making sure you've gotten all of the party favors for the guests has to be checked off. While the guest of honor will be receiving presents, having party favors for everyone else will take out some of the sting of them not getting presents either.

After that, getting all of the food, whether it be a dinner type event or just chips, dip and ice cream ready is next. Anything that has to be prepared or cooked needs to be taken care of now. And either the day before, or the day of, the cake needs to be picked up, decorations hung, party favors laid out and place settings, including name cards, set up. While this sounds like a lot of preparation for a kid's birthday party, not only will it make for a party the birthday boy or girl will remember, but all of the guests will as well.
