I believe many horse owners are confused about supplements and which would be best suited for their horse. My goal is to educate you and remove some of the hype and mystery about supplements in a series of short videos.
Now we welcome all your questions which will help us know what topics to address in future videos that will be distributed across the web to horse enthusiasts.
The supplement market has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years and I think it is a reflection of people's desire to use more natural and less invasive methods to keep their horses healthy. In this video, I discuss when it is advantageous to feed a supplement or not. Interestingly, supplements have evolved from more general purpose to problem specific supplements giving you the advantage to tailor a supplement to your horse's specific health risk.
One of the most important points I would like to get across to people is the importance of being proactive with supplements. Over the last 20 years, I've run into so many people who have waited until a problem develops with their horse and then they turn to supplements as a solution. We will prefer that people try to anticipate where there is a heightened risk and feed an appropriate supplement before a problem occurs thus reducing the risk of a problem occurring in the first place. If you think about it, most people take supplements to prevent themselves from getting sick. So why not take the same approach with our horses. So ask yourself the question, does your horse seem a bit lackluster? Is he recovering from an illness or surgery? Then Grand Vite would probably be a good supplement choice. Is his coat looking dull? In which case, Grand Coat would be a good choice to give him back his wow factor.
Or ask yourself, am I riding my horse pretty hard? Is he showing signs of aging or is he not moving as well as he used to? In which case, I would recommend using the Grand Flex. Does your horse appear to be losing weight, having digestive problems? In which case, Grand Digest would be a great option.
Does every horse need to be on a supplement? Of course not, if you're not really pushing your horse, if he is getting good hay, good grain, his feet are healthy, he looks and behaves well, he probably doesn't need a supplement. After all, horses somehow managed to survive thousands of years without supplements. What has changed is what we asked our horses to do, what we feed them and the environments that they live in.
I will be talking about manufacturing ethics in another video but when you buy a supplement, make sure that all the specific ingredients are listed clearly on the label and do not contain the words "proprietary blend". Check if the product has an expiration date and a lot or batch number. Look for the NASC seal on the product, the National Animal Supplement Council as a nonprofit organization that ensures manufacturing accountability. And lastly, compare prices, if one product in the same category is considerably less than another that should be a red flag.
I hope I've managed to help clear up some of the confusion about supplements. If you have further questions you can contact us by phone or email. We do get a lot of requests but we will certainly make our best effort to get back to you in a timely fashion. Bottom line, we want to make sure that you know what supplement to buy for your specific horse. And we also want to make certain that you're not wasting your money feeding multiple supplements that were not designed to be fed together. There is plenty of marketing hype out there, making all kinds of unrealistic claims so it is very important to remember, these are supplements not drugs. We have received some really amazing feedback from customers over the years, so please note that you can see some huge benefits from feeding supplements to your horse.
If you enjoyed this video, we have others that we can send to you that explain how to improve your horse's health safely and naturally that we can send to you absolutely free. Just tell us where to email them and we'll send them immediately. A number of the world's top riders are using our products and believe me, they have a lot of choices.
