How is it expected for people to shed weight when the weight reduction world is just as perplexed as its readers? Weight Loss programs have to be very personalized for them to work. That's why you hear so many different recommendations; it's not intended for you to attempt all of them. I know in serious attempts, trying more things appears to be the better option but unfortunately that is not so.

You attempt some drastic program to shock your body and lose a few pounds. Problem is, what you lose from the majority of those programs is either water weight or muscle tissue, two things that can highly deceive the scale and your perception that this "diet" is working.
Then one of two things happen; the big event comes and you go to it with whatever weight you're at or you hit a plateau. Now, obviously, when the event is over, you no longer have a motive to lose weight so you "get off" your weight loss plan.
If you hit the plateau before the occasion comes or before you feel you should be "done", you believe the plan is not working and you're destined to be fat. Well, you're incorrect about being fat forever but let's see why this type of plan is not working.
What happens when you level out is that you're body catches on to what you're doing to it, only it believes it's natural. It receives indicators that say, "Hey, we're not acquiring any more food. We have to save energy so we can stay alive!" Your body's systems have no idea what your conscious brain is thinking. It doesn't know that the lack of food is forced and deliberate so it adopts starvation mode.
Now a whole slew of things can occur in this stage including muscle loss, sensations of deprival resulting in overindulging and cravings, exhaustion, and overall lack of energy.
The deficiency of energy can make you not want to workout or prepare wholesome meals. You'll select the quickest meal because you'll be so exhausted and famished. Then, because your body feels like it hasn't eaten in so long, you will eat faster and your brain won't have the opportunity to tell you that your stomach is full until eventually you've overeaten.
So now you've overeaten some very harmful "fast" foods and are too weary to workout to burn calories and excess fat. Food deprival and fatigue will result in muscle loss which is the worst part of it all.
Why?
Because at least with muscle, the body can use the calories you consumed to fuel your muscles and melt away extra fat. But without having muscle mass, anything you consume evolves into fat much faster. So when you get off your diet, have no muscle mass, and choose to eat anything you desire, you gain all your weight back PLUS some! So you end up heavier, with more excess fat than you were when you began the weight loss plan.
Now you understand why dieting is so unsuccessful. You need to make a lifestyle change to eat healthier for good. Do not deprive yourself nutritious carbs, fats, and proteins. Your body needs all three to operate proficiently.
