The Most Dangerous Fat Loss Diets to Avoid

Fat loss diets can be more than silly, laughable passing fads. Some are downright dangerous; beware of diets that toss aside common sense health rules.

Who Believed that Fad Diet?

Remember what it felt like to be a teen? The pressure to look or dress a certain way and the constant feeling of being judged were common for most. For millions of overweight Americans, these feelings are not a part of passing teenage angst.

Feeling unattractive, unworthy and unnoticed are daily struggles. Yet attempts to change the reality of obesity are often met with utter failure. The dieting industry, and even well intentioned medical science, has created such a murky atmosphere surrounding real nutrition facts and how they come together to create real fat loss diets that dieters are lost, confused and almost destined for failure.

As dieters become more and more frustrated, the simple explanation of calories and fat loss presented in Jr. High School health classes across the nation comes bobbing to the surface of the brain.

Calories in subtracted from calories out equals weight gain or loss. To this end, dieters slash caloric intake following diets recommending ridiculously low daily calorie limits, like 700 calories per day.

The Desperation Downspin of Low Calorie Diets

The body will respond to these low calorie diets. It matters very little if the dieters achieve their feats of caloric depravation by eating cabbage three times daily, or a Hollywood endorsed cookie. The body will respond.

The only problem is the body will not respond in the way dieters want it to. An underfed body might respond in the short term by dropping a few pounds. After a few days however, the body will begin to self-protect.

There is no way for the brain to rationally explain to the body that there is no real crisis creating the starvation diet it now enjoys. The body just thinks it is starving. To this end, it will act to protect fat stores and aggressively try to add more for long term hunger conditions.

The metabolism shuts down. Hormones circulate to slow or completely prevent fat loss. And the body restricts the accumulation of more lean muscle mass. These natural body reactions are completely counter productive to weight loss efforts.

From Bad to Worse: Diets that Actually Make You Unhealthy

Slamming the brakes on fat and weight loss are not the only effects of low calorie fat loss diets. It isn't even the worst effect. If low calorie intake persists, the body will even begin to use the muscle mass it already has to fuel its needs.

Perhaps dieters think, "So what? Burning muscle still means weight loss, right?" Think again. Major vital organs are hit hard. The heart is a huge ball of muscle, and it is not exempt from the body's pillaging behaviors.

Real fat loss diets understand the body's caloric needs and don't demand that dieters limit themselves to dangerously low numbers. Eating more of the right foods, at the right times in combination with the right exercises is the pathway to lasting health and better fitting jeans.
