How to Lose Weight- Weight Loss Basics

One of the most overlooked aspects of any diet is the ability for dieters to reward themselves. This was the case for me as I love Chinese food and use to frequent my local Chinese Buffet restaurant up to five times a week. However, due to obvious reasons, I knew that I had to curtail that behavior. I boldly told myself that for the next two months, I was not going to eat Chinese food at all! At first, I was able to keep my resolution. I began to lose a little weight and the energy that the food had been zapping my from every day activities, slowly seemed t o come back.

However, for the first time in my adult life, I could not stop thinking about food; specifically Chinese food. And the first time that I became frustrated about something or my day did not go the way that I had hoped, I went straight to the local Chinese restaurant and needless to say, got my fill and then some. I walked away feeling guilty and needless to say, my stomach was mad at me as well. I then regarded my diet as a failure and for the next week, I was at the Chinese restaurant as though I had never been away.

I then resolved to take a step back and examine why my diet had failed so completely. I told myself that I was going to be unable to eliminate Chinese food from my diet all together and that I need to compromise with myself in order to stay on track for the long run. I then told myself that I was going to eat Chinese food no more than once a week and only in the form of a reward for closely adhering to my diet the previous week.

I cannot take credit for this idea. Cheat days" are widely known but only rarely implemented as successfully as I did this time. I now eat Chinese food, at most, once a week. I do not seek it out as a comfort food anymore and when I do go, I eat in moderation and do not feel my energy depleted for the day as I once did after frequenting the local Chinese restaurant.

Lastly, going out to eat once a week instead of four or five times has yielded natural and favorable results toward my desire to lose weight. This also showed that it is important to attack a diet from many fronts and that simply going to the gym will not give you the desired results in the shortest amount of time. Using your previous consumption of junk foods in infrequent moderation allows the individual to still enjoy foods that they love the most and to still lose weight by no longer seeing it as a comfort food.
