The first few days of my trip to California went by like a tornado. We were all preparing for my brother's wedding. Matt and Anne went steady for 10 years before tying the knot. We're very happy to welcome Anne to the family!
The church they were married in was called One in Christ Jesus Our Lord. It's a fairly new church located right across the K-Mart in the suburbs of a renovation area. The gentle wind that came through the side doors of the church made it very comfortable, even without air-conditioning.
If you want to get married there, be warned about their stringent time policy. Be late for more than 5 minutes and you might find your own wedding canceled by the priest! Anne and Matt were there 30 minutes before schedule so we were in the clear.
My firstborn son was the ring bearer. This was his first time to wear a tuxedo purchased by my mom in K-Mart for only $12. At 5, he was the oldest among the "bearers" and he did his "ring bearer walk" all by himself. Bearing the ring and walking down the isle was my proudest moment.
Sadly, I don't have photos to show, because my arms were full carrying a sack of flowers to throw when they march out of the church. Now I understand how my parents feel when their kids are chosen to be flower girl. Folding banquet tables CA and being rushed to the reception while mass was being held were all part of the fun.
Highlands House and Park, the site of the reception, is a circular park enclosing the Chapel. It is a very popular site for weddings, a romantic oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of California urban life. We even had to buy some folding tables for sale to accommodate everyone attending the wedding.
There was a lot of space during the reception for the kids to play in and enjoy one another's company as the adults chatted around dinner. There were even chiavari chairs for sale outside the reception area while across the street there were folding chairs for sale as well.
My brother's wedding was during the late afternoon, and the trees in the park provided ample shade for the banquet tables and chairs. I think an evening wedding in the Park would also be quite stunning, with the chance to dress up the lake and surroundings with lights.
