subject: How To Make Good Groom Wedding Speeches In 4 Steps [print this page]

Groom wedding speeches are not for the faint-hearted as they can cause a lot of stress. After all, it is a big day and you want to look good in front of your own and your bride's family. In addition to that, you are speaking on behalf of your bride so you want to make sure you do not let her down. You can relieve some of the worry if you approach your speech preparation in four steps.

Follow The Format

There is a traditional format for groom wedding speeches, which makes them easier to write. While you do not have to stick to the format completely, it does give you a good guide to follow. The easiest thing to do is to follow the format. The first thing to do is to thank the guests for coming - you can mention some who have come long distances. You can then thank the parents - both your own and your bride's - for all they have done and the support they have given you. You could then thank anyone else who was involved in helping with the wedding.

Talk about your bride

You should talk about your bride - you will want to anyway - and your guests will expect it. Tell people what attracted her to you and why she is so special. You can be as emotional as you like, as your audience will be caught up in that. Humor is good but make sure it is not at you bride's expense. You would be better off if you told a joke against yourself or related a funny incident you both shared. You then need to thank the bridesmaids, maid of honour and best man.

Be confident

If you are nervous about making a speech, write it down and make sure you include all the people you need to mention. If you are well prepared you will feel more confident. You will also feel more confident if you set out to enjoy yourself. You can give your speech and have fun doing it. A good way to do this is to be enthusiastic. If you act enthusiastically you will be enthusiastic. Your audience will be caught up in this. Another trick is to pause and look around the room just before you start to speak. This will help settle your nerves - and remember to slow down your breathing.

Not too long

You do not have to make a long speech. You can say a lot in three minutes and you are less likely to get into trouble. The longer you drag it out there is more chance of your audience becoming bored and the more chance you will have of stumbling, trying to fill up the time. Get up, say what you want to say and sit down. Three minutes is plenty of time for that. Groom wedding speeches can be daunting but with a little effort and preparation they can be enjoyable for the groom and the audience.
