Holiday Weight Loss Impossible?
Holiday Weight Loss Impossible?

Are you like so many people who are excited about the holidays but are dreading the weight gain that often goes with it?

Did you know that you can actually lose weight during this time of the year with a few simple changes in your routine? The fact is that while enjoying your food and losing pounds, you can also gain energy and boost your immune system!

Get 8 to 10 glasses of filtered water each day. Soda, tea, coffee and other drinks do not count as a glass of water and actually may have a diaretic effect on your body, making it necessary for you to drink even more water!

Get 6 or more servings of fruits and vegees every day. Hint- you can get 3 of these servings from your dinner salad alone!!

Get plenty of sleep so that when you are trying to stay awake during the day, you aren't reaching for the sugary foods to give you energy.

Stay active. Try a 30-minute brisk walk, ice skating, cross country skiing, or in warmer weather states, biking. Keeping active will actually boost your energy levels and your metabolism.

Get your vitamins and minerals from nutrient rich foods, vitamins or even a nutrition shake. When your body gets more nutrients, your cravings for other foods will decrease. Cravings are a sign that your body is missing nutrients and we often eat too many of the "bad foods" to fill our body's need for these missing nutrients.

Prepare a fruit salad and when you feel the "need" for sugar, instead have a bowl of fruit. It is a great desert alternative!

Follow some of these rules and you will get better nutrition, decrease your cravings and keep the holiday weight off!
