Have you noticed that certain people never gain weight during the holidays?
There are many similar habits that most of these people share and they can be
achieved by anyone who wants to avoid gaining weight and wants to be healthier!
Some of these good habits include:Avoiding sugar and artificial sugars whenever possible,
They do not drink too much alcohol and coffee and they stay away from soda.
They drink a lot of water (Eight to ten, 8 ounce glasses of water is ideal),
They eat deserts in moderation, choosing one desert or fruit with their
desert. They don't deprive themselves but they don't go overboard with the
tempting foods.
They get more than 6 servings of fruits and vegetables each day,
They stay active (A thirty minute walk or another activity you enjoy, that
gets you moving each day is great),
They keep their stress levels low (keeping organized, not trying to control
everything in your life and just learning to enjoy what you have are great
starts to lowering stress),
They do not drink too much alcohol and coffee and they stay away from soda.
A good way of starting to change your habits is to set small goals. Do not get
overwhelmed by changing everything at once! You might want to begin with a few
of the changes to be able to stick to them!
Try a few of the following tips:
Make sure that you get one good-sized salad every day. This can count for
three of the six servings of fruits and vegetables you need each day and you
will begin to notice a difference in your health with all of the essential
nutrients and fiber your body is utilizing from your salads!
Begin to take a 15-minute walk each morning. After a few days increase your
walks to 20 minutes and then to 25 minutes until you reach 30 minutes of walking
per day. When you get active you will notice that you have more energy and that
your metabolism starts to speed up!
Cut the amount of soda, alcohol and coffee you consume by reducing the
amount that you pour into your cup or glass. Reducing the portions a little bit
each day will help you get healthier because you are reducing the sugar and
caffeine from your diet. You will also notice that your cravings for them aren't
as strong!
If you can adopt a few of these good habits into your life and combine them with
the traditional ones, you will find that you won't be dreading holiday weight
gain! You will be more energetic and you will understand how some people NEVER
seem to gain weight during the holidays!
