So you had the pumpkin pie (twice), the turkey and dressing AND stuffing, roll after roll, after roll, and butter, sugar and whatever else you could manage to get down. Stick a fork in you, you're done (its clich but it fits for most of us on The Day After). So what can you do to get past off of this? First, accept that this will not be a quick fix and that it is a process. This is a typically accepted bad habit in our society but it doesn't mean that you have to carry this bad habit throughout the season. You can get back on track by following a few tips so here you go!
First Nutrition
We all know that eating things that do not have good nutritional value only results in us eating more than necessary. It's simple eat things that will help give you energy and get you where you need to be: on the road to healthy. Lean meats without all the frying and coatings over it, vegetables and fruit (without all the toppings like sugars, butter and oil), and less sodas - even diet. Increasing your water intake will do wonders for your hunger level and your health in general. There are quite a few people that may not know where to start with a good meal plan to help clean up your diet. I'll get more specific on that in a bit.
Second -- To Cleanse or Not to Cleanse?
Like all things in life, this is a personal choice. I am sure that there are many people out there who adamantly disagree with cleansings of any kind and this is understandable. My thoughts on the matter are based on experience. Whenever I start anything in life, I typically get the old stuff out. When I am about to get ready for the spring, I do spring cleaning, when I am starting a new workout plan, I try to jump start my metabolism with better good. Cleanse is synonous with transition. You are transitioning your body to make the change it was not expecting.
That said, I do not support nor like the crazy fads that involve being hungry, not getting enough nutrition and being near passing out. That's crazy. A few months I was turned towards the Shakeology cleanse which has as the main component, the Shakeology meal replacement provided by Beachbody. This meal replacement shake is like none other in that it has 70 vitamins and nutrients which is amazing to have in a shake and the shake is 140 calories so you are not in a low calorie, now nutrition situation. The Three Day Shakeology Cleanse is outlined below:
-Drink 3 Shakeology shakes a day (mix with water only)
- Dinner: salad with 4 ounces of protein, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and vinegar dressing, and 1 tablespoon of flax seed, chia seeds, or hemp seed
**Drink plenty of water and feel free to enjoy teas and coffees without sweetners or creamers**
That's it! I've done this several times and I've felt nothing but more energized and "clean". This is a good feeling to couple with the desire to get back on track!
Third Exercise!
Lots of grunting, resistance and lack of desires is met here. Make your workout fun. Find something that you can do consistently and do well. 3-5x a week is the typical guide for the number of times to workout to see results and be consistent but do what you can make a goal of at least 3 days a week. Don't let yourself make excuses! If you don't want to workout in public or a commercial gym, try a home system like P90x (if you can handle something that intense just modify!), Turbo Jam (my personal favorite), or whatever will motivate you to JUST PUSH PLAY and keep up with it. Walk the dogs, play with the kids, do what you need to do to get that workout time in! Everyone can do it and there is not a good reason to get off the couch and forget those leftovers! Don't let that one day's food last for weeks and get you further and further away from your goals.
Finally Support
It's always hard to do things when we are doing them on our own. People are naturally and typically social creatures. How many hours a week do you spend on Twitter, Facebook or even just texting? See,? Social creatures. So if you can't find any positive support in your life, then seek out a group that will help to motivate you to get to those goals. You never know, you might even inspire some of those nay sayers in your life to follow YOU. Get the support!!
